The congregation at Saint George’s were delighted and honoured to receive the following letter and picture from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Long live the Queen!
It is with great respect that we offer our best wishes for a wonderful 90th birthday to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was born Princess Elizabeth on April 21, 1926, and has reigned through seven decades in Britain.
The people of our Parish gathered together to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday on Rogation Sunday, the 1st of May 2016. To mark our Queen’s milestone, Mrs Anna Belanger baked her a very beautiful and decadent chocolate cake. We sang “Happy Birthday” to Her Majesty, we cut the birthday cake in Her Majesty’s honour, and drank to Her Majesty’s health. Long live the Queen!
By God’s grace, Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth the Second, has reigned longer than any other British sovereign in history. As of the 9th September 2015, Her Majesty had reigned for 63 years 216 days as Queen of Canada and Great Britain, and the other fourteen Realms of our vast Commonwealth of Nations. This surpasses the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Her Late Majesty Queen Victoria, the first Sovereign of our united Dominion of Canada.
We at Saint George’s marked this happy occasion with a special Mass of Thanksgiving as part of our regular Sunday worship on the 6th of September 2015. Following the Mass, we honoured Her Majesty with the traditional loyal toast and three cheers.
We thank God for having such a lovely, kind, and dutiful Christian woman as our Sovereign Lady, and Mother of the Nation, to reign over us in this wonderful country of ours. It was God Almighty Who set Queen Elizabeth the Second upon the Throne of this Realm and we thank Him for this great blessing, and pray for her continued health and safety for years to come.
